Have you bred a future star?
Dates and venues for the 2015 Baileys Horse Feeds/British Breeding/BEF Futurity evaluation series have been announced.
Future stars
The evaluations, which run from 1– 18 August, aim to identify British-bred youngsters with potential to become top competition horses and ponies in dressage, showjumping, eventing or endurance.
The series is open to British bred equines, from foals up to three-year-olds. Each is assessed by a vet and then evaluated in hand and loose in an indoor school.
‘Marked improvement’
Three-year-olds that achieve a ‘threshold score’ of 8.5 or over are invited to the Futurity Equine Bridge selection day under saddle the following year. The Equine Bridge provides support to riders and trainers and helps owners and breeders realise their horse’s full potential.
“We are increasingly finding that breeders, buyers and riders of British-bred horses are finding that a Futurity premium is a very useful aid in helping assess these horses,” said BEF’s head of equine development Jan Rogers.
“We are also seeing a marked improvement in the standard of youngsters entered in the futurity, which is very good news for the future of British breeding”.
