British showjumpers enjoy wins abroad
It might be pretty chilly here in the UK, but British showjumpers are enjoying success in the sun.
Turn of speed
Jessica Mendoza won the Gold Tour Grand Prix in Arezzo, Italy, while Guy Williams and Phillip Miller achieved a one-two in the final Grand Prix of the Sunshine Tour in Spain (22 March).
Jessica and Spirit T were one of four combinations out of a field of almost 60 to jump a double clear. Known for her turn of speed, the 18-year-old put in some incredibly tight turns to win the class with more than a second in hand.
The Grand Prix in Vejer de la Frontera also had 60 starters, with four double clears. This time it was Guy Williams and Basic who jumped the fastest clear in a time of 42.48 seconds to claim the class.
Hot on his heels
Hot on his heels was Phillip Miller and his Hickstead Derby winner Caritiar Z, who stopped the clock in 43.60 seconds to take the runner-up spot.
Both horses were produced by Greenacres Equestrian in Hertfordshire, where Phillip has been based for more than 30 years.
Another British win came courtesy of Alicia Smallman, who won the Ladies Class Tour Grand Prix.
