Students to take Newmarket by storm
Students are invited to attend this year’s Dubai Future Champions Festival at Newmarket (9-10 October), free of charge.
Students go free
Students can watch the action for free on both days, as long as they have a valid NUS card on the day. There is also 15% off certain drinks in the Minstrel and Pretty Polly Bars on the first floor of the Millennium Grandstand, which are allocated students zones.
Newmarket also welcomes the return of the Vision Varsity Race on Saturday, which sees five students from Oxford and Cambridge battle it out on Newmarket’s straight mile.
Captaining the defending champions is James Alexander from Cambridge – who is the only rider to be riding for a second year – while the appropriately named Alice Stables will be leading the way for Oxford.
Top prize
The meeting is also hosting Europe’s most valuable Group 1 races for two-year-olds, with awhopping £500,000 going to the winners.
Both the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes and Dubai Fillies’ Mile have half a million up for grabs – and there is more than £2 million in prizemoney over the two days.
Other races include the famous £250,000 Betfred Cesarewitch Handicap, which was first run in 1839, as well as a host of other Group 2 and 3 races.
Following the racing, action of a different variety kicks off with Newmarket’s official after party, with acts including Swagger.
