Record entries for World Equestrian Games

Record entries have been received for this year’s Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Normandy.

WEG debut

A total of 72 National Federations (NFs) have ‘entered in principle’, which is a 10% increase compared to previous years.

Showjumping has attracted the greatest number of entries, with 57 countries intending to take part, followed by endurance which has competitors from 50 countries.

Great Britain has teams entered in all FEI disciplines (showjumping, dressage and para-dressage, eventing, driving, endurance, vaulting and reining) as does France, Australia, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden and the United States.

There are 12 countries making their WEG debut, including Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Republic of Korea, Morocco, Palestine and Romania.

Developing sport

FEI Secretary General Ingmar De Vos said he is “delighted” with the interest in this summer’s Games.

“It is very exciting to welcome new nations from all over the world to the FEI’s biggest event,” he said. “The majority of the nations that will be participating for the first time have indicated their intention to send teams or individuals in more than one discipline, which shows how well our sport is developing all around the world.”

The full list of entries in principle is now available on the WEG website. The final deadline for definite entries is in August.
