More horses are being rehomed, says charity
More people are rehoming rescue horses, according to a leading equine charity.
Really encouraging
World Horse Welfare which has seen more than a 50% increase in the number of equines being rehomed.
The charity has found new homes for 119 horses so far this year, compared with 78 at the same time in 2013.
“It’s really encouraging that more people seem to be turning to rehoming instead of buying a horse now, and it’s a breath of fresh air to be telling a positive story,” said rehoming officer for World Horse Welfare, Tanya Element.
Great character
One horse to benefit from World Horse Welfare rehoming scheme is Cappuccino. He wasfound in a dark, cramped barn with a group of severely underweight youngsters, who were also riddled with lice.
Following a lengthy rehabilitation, Cappuccino found a new home earlier this year with Susan Ridley, who already had a rescue horse.
“The pair are such great characters and incredibly attached to each other,” said Susan, who lives in the Scottish borders. “Wendy, the wee one, doesn’t like Cappy to be away from her for too long.
“Cappy is a total gentleman, I’ve never had a single problem with him and he really takes care of Wendy as she is still growing up.”
