Two horses have survived a motorway crash, which saw their trailer tip over onto its side (19 July).

Escaped

The M40 in Buckinghamshire was closed in both directions for more than three hours after one of the horses escaped from the trailer. He jumped over the central reservation into oncoming traffic.

Four fire engines attended the scene at 3pm, each with a full crew, along with Thames Valley Police, the Highways Agency and a vet.

The loose horse was miraculously unhurt in the incident and caught by firecrew on a verge by the side of the motorway.

Rescueequipment

Firefighters used hydraulic rescue equipment to release the other horse. Though the trailer was on its side the horse was still on his feet.

The horses were transferred to a lorry and removed from the scene. Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted that both animals were ‘okay’.
