Charity show in aid of rider paralysed in fall
A charity horse show is being held in aid LindseyBroomhead, the rider left paralysed in a fall when youths threw stones at her horse.
Personal appearance
The 29-year-old mother of two will put in a personal appearance at the show, as will her much-loved equine Murphy.
“She will be at the show for the morning to watch the in-hand classes and hopefully present a few rosettes, but she will have to go back to the hospital at lunch time as she is only allowed out for a few hours,” friend Sarah-Jane Binder-Swash told H&C.
“She’s looking forward to the show though, and excited to spend some time with Murphy and see him compete in-hand.”
Slow progress
Since the accident on 17 May 2014, Lindsey is making slow but steady progress. She recently took her first few steps, with the support of her physiotherapists.
“Her left hand is getting better, so she is able to type messages for her family on her iPhone and iPad using a stylus,” said Sarah-Jane, who runs the stables where Murphy is kept.
“She’s learning to write again and is also learning to bake and do kitchen tasks. It’s slow going but she is improving, and daily tasks, which we all take for granted, are getting a little easier.
Range of classes
The show will be held at Northern Racing College in Rossington, South Yorkshire, which has donated its facilities for the day. There are two rings, with a wide range of in-hand and ridden showing classes, including Equifest and Equestrian Life qualifiers. Entry fees are £8.
All proceeds from the show will go towards Lindsey’s rehabilitation. More information can be on the charity show’s Facebook page.
