Surprise Nations Cup win for Germany

Germany has won the sixth leg of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup in Falsterbo, Sweden, after shooting up the leaderboard in the second round.

Up the ranks

The team was in fifth place at the halfway stage, but rose up the ranks to win the Europe Division One competition with seven faults.

The host team was just behind them on eight, while the USA and Spain were joint third with nine faults. In fifth place were The Netherlands (13) and Britain was sixth (18).

Trouble at the treble

Peter Charles withdrew from the second round after coming into trouble at the treble, which caused a few problems due to its short stride. Odie du Frevent put in a single stride in the second part of the combination, instead of the required two, and demolished the vertical on the way out as a result.

Joe Clee and Spencer Roe both finished on four faults, while Robert Whitaker had one time fault in round one and nine faults second time out.

Costly performance

This was a costly performance for Britain who was competing for points. They now have only two more opportunities at Hickstead and Dublin to move up from the bottom of the Furusiyya league table – a position they share with Ireland.

Only seven of the 10 nations competing in Europe Division One can qualify for the final in Barcelona in October.
