Dead horse found dumped by side of road in Essex
The horse welfare crisis shows no sign of abating, as another emaciated, dead horse has been found abandoned by the side of the road.
Appeal
The RSPCA is appealing for information after the dead horse discovered by the side of the road in Chelmsford, Essex on Saturday (7 January). A witness claimed to have seen a white pick-up truck dump the horse’s body there around 5.30pm.
The piebald colt was said to be in an extremely poor condition. He was found with a length of rope tied around his neck, which was likely used to drag his body.
Emaciated
“The horse was very young, probably just a year old, was suffering from diarrhoea, and emaciated. He looked as if he had had redworm and not been treated for it,” said RSPCA inspector Kate Fletcher.
“It is difficult to know for sure how this horse died, but he was in a terrible state and would definitely have suffered before he died.”
In such cases, the Local Authority or landowner is responsible for removing the body.
