Arundel Castle hosts England’s largest joust

Arundel Castle hosted the largest jousting competition in England, with competitors travelling from across Europe to take part.

Now in its sixth year, the Arundel Castle InternationalJoustingTournament was tougher than ever, with brave knights fighting tooth and nail. Or should that be lance and horse…

This year’s teams were made up of old rivals the Kingdoms of England – who were defending their title – and France, plus newcomers the Burgundian Alliance and the Kingdom of Poland.

Much to the surprise of the crowd, it was the Burgundian Alliancewho rode to victory, after they wowed the judges with their jousting prowess.

Chivalry is not dead

Taking theindividual titlewasAndrew Deane, who has beenjoustingsince 1985. He travels all around the world teaching and performing medieval skills.

The award for themost chivalrous knightwent toPatrice Rolland from France, whilePoland’s Jan Gradon took theskill at arms title.
