Valegro: from dressage star to famous brand
One of the most successful competition horses of all time has achieved another first – hiring his own publicist to deal with his adoring fans.
Valegro brand
Valegro has over 84,000 fans on Facebook, who send him huge sacks of mail each month. He also has to deal with various media requests, so like any self-respecting celebrity he now how someone to handle it.
Affectionately nicknamed Blueberry due to his coat’s unusual blue tint, the 13-year-old has also his own brand of merchandise. A range of t-shirts were launched at Hartpury Premier League last month, which are being followed by shampoo, horse rugs and books, all portraying the Valegro gold medal hallmark.
Immortalise him
There are also plans for children’s books and an animated series based around his adventures as a dressage superstar.
“Valegro is the most amazing horse that the UK has ever produced,” said Carl Hester, his trainer and co-owner. “His life is almost a fairy tale, which is why he has a special place in so many hearts.
“We want to let fans worldwide be part of his journey and celebrate what he has done for the sport of dressage. He gives so much pleasure and we want to immortalise him for generations to remember.”
