Steve Guerdat retains World Cup title
Steve Guerdat has been crowned the Longines FEI World Cup Jumping champion for the second year running (28 March).
Faultless rounds
The 33-year-old produced two faultless rounds with Corbinian to claim the €172,500 prize. Dutch rider Harrie Smolders took the runner-up spot riding Emerald NOP, while Germany’s Daniel Deusser, who won the World Cup in 2014, came third with Cornet d’Amour.
Steve was in the lead going into the final round at Gothenburg in Sweden, but he had to leave all the fences up if he was to defend his title.
The Olympic champion held his nerve to jump a double clear and finish on a zero score.
‘Team victory’
“It’s really special – I wasn’t really thinking I would stand here in front of you as the final winner today,” said Steve.
“I have a really strong team supporting me, people who get up early every morning and work really hard, so I want to thank my whole team, it’s really a team victory.
“We all have the same goal. It’s me who’s standing here in front of you, but there are many people who should be standing here with me. It’s a team victory more than ever I think.”
