Oliver Fletcher has won individual silver at the FEI Junior European Championships in France.
Showjumping greats
The son of showjumping greats Tina and Graham Fletcher also won team silver. Oliver wasn’t the only protege competing for Great Britain, as joining him on the NAF Junior team were: Robert Murphy (son of Peter, GB’s eventing showjumping coach), Sienna Charles (daughter of Olympic gold medalist, Peter) and Jack Whitaker (son of the legend Michael).
Oliver delivered his medal winning performances on Hello Disckoboy DN, who is owned by Lady Kirkham and Lady Harris. The pair came into the individual final in third place after accruing just 6.20pen over the first three rounds of competition.
Determination
Battling it out against 29 other starters, the 15-year-old knew he needed two clear rounds. Oliver rode with composure and determination that belied his young years to deliver the only double clear of the final and move up into silver medal position.
It was Ireland’s Jason Foley who took home individual gold (Castlefield Vegas) while Belgium’s Simon Morssinkhof (Vivolta de Gree) won bronze.
Fantastic jumping
Oliver’s podium place rounded off five days of fantastic jumping, with Team GB winning team gold in the Young Rider European Championships and Harry Charles crowned the Young Rider European Champion.
