Hurlingham hosts first international in 76 years

Hurlingham Park in London is to host its first international polo match in 76 years.

National captain

The game kicks off ChestertonsPoloin the Park, and will see England take on South America under the newly approved City Polo Series rules.

Captaining the home team is James Beim, a seven-goaler who won the Queen’s Cup aged just 22 and took over as national captain last year. He will be joined by Matthew Perry (5) and Tom Morley (6).

As well as the international match, the three-day tournament – which is now in its seventh year – sees six UK teams representing cities from around the world competing.

Close to the action

The simplified version of traditional polo rules means newcomers to the sport, or those who have spent too much time at the cocktail bar, can still follow the action.

The gamesare also played on a slightly smaller field than standard, so polofans can get close to the action.

This year the visiting teams taking on the London home team are last year’s winners Abu Dhabi, along with Lagos, Singapore, Sydney and Buenos Aires.

Pop-up bar

As you’d expect, alongside the action there are numerous opportunities for fine dining and drinking. You can quaff of bubbles in the Lanson Champagne Garden Bar or sip cocktails in at the Mahiki Bar, which has the longest pop-up bar in Europe.
