Kent Target wins UK Polocrosse Championships

Kent Target polocrosse club has won the UK Polocrosse Association Nationals for the second year running.

Over 220 players from fourteen clubs around the country gathered at Onley Grounds near Rugby (28-30 August). Players of all abilities and ages attended, from beginners to UK international team players, and the under 12s to the over 50s.

At the start of the tournament there were three clubs in contention for the title: Celyn from North Wales, who won the trophy in 2013, the Welsh Dragons from South Wales, and Kent Target from South East England.

The finals on Sunday saw Kent win three divisions and come second in another, which was enough for them to retain their title.

Good fight

The highlight of the weekend was the last match, when Kent played Highlanders in the A division final. The sides included four players from the UK team, who recently played in the Polocrosse World Cup in South Africa.

As winners of the division for the past three years, Kent was the higher graded team and the favourites to win. However, Highlanders put up a good fight.

Kent took an early lead, but by the third chukka Highlanders had caught up and the score was tied at 9 each. Kent slowly drew away to take the match and the division 20 to 17.
