Beatriz Ferrer-Salat wins Dressage World Cup on home turf

Spanish dressage legend Beatriz Ferrer-Salat has won the fourth leg of the FEI Dressage World Cup, riding her long-time partner Delgado.

Successful career

The host nation dominated the inaugural Madrid qualifier, with Claudio Castilla Ruiz (Alcaide) in second place. Portugal’s Maria Caetano (Coroado) was third.

Beatriz has enjoyed a successful career, winning team silver and individual bronze at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, and individual bronze at the 2015 European Championships with Delgado.

The 17-year-old Westphalian gelding is now in the twilight of his career, but showed he still has much to give coming 13th in the Grand Prix Special at the World Equestrian Games in September.

Willing to perform

Delgado rose to the occasion once again in Madrid, producing one of his trademark clockwork passage, to post a winning score of 81.285.

“Delgado is very fresh lately and willing to perform,” said Beatriz. “He’s very much with me still and I’m very proud of him.”

Britain’s Richard Davis had a disappointing competition as he had to retire when Bubblingh reared in over-excitement at the start of their test.

The FEI Dressage World Cup Western European League now moves to Salzburg.
