Gold for Brits at Tentpegging Championships
The British team won gold and silver at the InternationalTentpeggingChampionship, in Delhi, India (10-15 March).
Amateur tentpeggers
Team GB comprised Michael Smith, Rachel Imber, Sarah King and Jenna Copley – all of whom are amateur tentpeggers, with full time jobs.
They were managed by Household Calvary Mounted Regiment staff corporal Daniel Powell and assisted by Tina Ricketts-Smith.
Britain won gold in Indian file, where the team ride one after another on a line of pegs, while Michael Smith achieved afull scorein the Rings and Peg to take silver.
Borrowed horses
Eleven countries competed alongside the Brits: India, Germany, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon,Oman,Pakistan,Russia,Sudan and theUSA.
Riders in international tentpeggingcompetitions use borrowed horses and the teams have only three runs to get used to their mounts before competing.
The sportin Britain is currently self-funded and is trying to gain British Equestrian Federation recognition.
