Blenheim celebrates its 25th horse trials
It’s all go for the eventing world this month. Top riders headed straight from Burghley to Blair Castle for the Europeans, and from there it’s off to Blenheim.
Past winners
Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials (17-20 September 2015) iscelebrating its 25thanniversary this year.
Entries in the CCI3* include Pippa Funnell, who has won the title four times, and three-times winner William Fox-Pitt – both of whom are competing at the Europeans this weekend.
William is riding Cool Mountain – who won silver and team at the 2010 World Equestrian Games – and the less experienced Luxury FH. Pippa rides Mirage D’Elle and the home-bred Billy The Biz.
Last year’s winner Francis Whittington, who is also at the Europeans with Easy Target – the grey that took him to victory at Blenheim 12 months ago – will be back to defend his title, this time riding Fernhill Highlight.
Sticky jods
The 2013 winner Aoife Clark is competing on Fernhill Adventure – another horse produced by Fernhill Sport Horses in Kilkenny City, southern Ireland.
The Irish rider was supposed to be at Blair Castle, but had to withdraw Vaguley North after he banged a leg in training.
Australia is out in force at Blenheim, with Andrew Hoy riding Cheeky Calimbo, and third and fourth-place Burghley rider Chris Burton who is bringing Nobilis 18.
Royal visit
Blenheim will also receive a royal visit with Zara Phillips entered in the CIC3* for eight-and-nine-year-olds, with Watkins.
Last year’s winner Faerie Dianamo, ridden by Jonelle Price, will be back in spirit as his half-brother Xavier Faer is competing with Jonelle’s husband Tim – who came second at Burghley.
