Argentina beats England in Coronation cup
Argentina lifted the Coronation Cup, one of Europe’s most prestigious events held at Windsor Great Park (26 July).
Good fight
More than 3,000 spectators turned out to watch the Argentineans battle it out against England. Prince Charles was in attendance, as were a number of celebrity VIPs includingThandie Newton, Dominic Cooper, Douglas Booth, Eddie Redmayne and Gemma Arteton.
The England team comprised seven-goalers Luke Tomlinson (captain) and James Beim, who rode alongsideOllie Cudmore (four) Mark Tomlinson (six).Aged just 24, Ollie is the youngest player to represent England on International Day at Guards Polo Club in more than ten years.
World’s best
They were up against the world’s best, with ten-goal players Facundo Pieres (captain) and Adolfo Cambiaso who teamed up three-goalers Julio Ruggeri and Francisco Belaustegui.
Thehome teamput up a good fight, taking an early lead, but lost the game 13-8.
Incredible manpower
“Today was a very special day for me and my team members,” said Facundo. “Having lost to the England team in the Copa de las Naciones at Palermo in Buenos Aires earlier this year, we definitely felt like we had something to prove and came back fighting.
“The results speak for themselves and today we played with incredible manpower and equine superiority. The best team won and we are tremendously pleased with the results.”
Prince Charles presented the trophy to Facundo Pieres, who also received the Garrard most valuable player award. His team mate Cambiaso picked up the Gaucho best playing pony prize for his pony Yum Yum.
