Young dressage horses crowned world’s best in Ermelo

Crowds of up to 20,000 dressage fans gathered in Ermelo in the Netherlands last month to watch the judging of the Longines FEI/WBFSH World Breeding Dressage Championships for Young Horses.

Five-year-olds

Germany’s Beatrice Buchwald produced the Rheinlander mare Victoria’s Secret (above), to win the five-year-old section with an impressive score of 95.00%. The mare (Vitalis/Fiermark) scored  9.5 for trot, 9.3 for walk, 8.9 for canter 9.8 for submission and 10 for perspective.

Five-year-old Championship: GOLD – Victoria’s Secret (Beatrice Buchwald) GER 95.00; SILVER – Quel Filou OLD (Sascha Schulz) LUX 93.20; BRONZE – Guadeloupe-Beau (Kim van der Velden) NED 91.00.

Six-year-olds

Severo Jesus Jurado Lopez and last year’s five-year-old winner, the Danish Warmblood Fiontini (Fassbinder/Romanov), won Friday’s six-year-old section with a score of 95.80%.

Six-year-old Championship: GOLD – Fiontini (Severo Jesus Jurado Lopez) ESP 95.80; SILVER – Five Star (Kirsten Brouwer) NED 89.00; BRONZE – Sir Olli (Ann-Christin Wienkamp) GER 87.60.

Seven-year-olds

Currently impressing out in Rio, Germany’s Dorothee Schneider won the seven-year-old category, with Sezuan. The dark bay Danish Warmblood stallion (Blue Hors Zack/Don Schufro), who was bred by Linette Jaeger and is owned by Gestüt Peterhof, scored 89.005% to win.

Seven-year-old Championship: GOLD – Sezuan (Dorothee Schneider) GER 89.005; SILVER – Fiorucci hT (Jeanna Hogberg) SWE 80.253; BRONZE – Saphire Royal (Stefanie Wolf) GER 78.641.
