Police appeal for information after horse killed on roadside
Kent Police have appealed for any information following the discovery of a fatally injured horse on the roadside last week.
Physical abuse
Police officers and the RSPCA arrived at Lenham Road in Headcorn Kent following claims that a horse was being physically abused.
On Monday 16 May at 12.44pm the animal was discovered lying by a sharp bend in the road. Witnesses claim to have seen the coloured colt estimated to be about three years old fall to the ground shortly before it died.
Attack
Due to the nature of its injuries it is believed that the pony may have been involved in a harness race immediately before its death.
One witness described how the horse was found to be “tied up looking close to death.” Another said two males were seen laughing as they physically attacked the animal.
Witnesses
“It is understood that the horse had travelled with two men who are not believed to be from the Headcorn area ” a police spokesman told Kent Online.
There are calls for witnesses to come forward as police are keen to speak to the two men seen with the pony before its abandonment and death
Anyone with information can call police on 101 quoting reference 16-0555 or speak to Kent Crime Stoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
