Michael Eilberg’s Half Moon Delphi sold abroad

Michael Eilberg’s top ride Half Moon Delphi has been sold to the United States.

Sights set on Rio

The 13-year-old mare, who took Michael to team bronze at the FEI European Championships in 2013 and silver in the FEI World Equestrian Games last year, has been bought by Bob Price.

The industrial designer has a large equestrian property near Chicago, but his latest purchase is heading to Germany where his trainer and rider Sarah Daehnert is currently based.

“There has been a lot of talk lately about Delphi and what is happening with her,” said Michael. “She is fit and well, but unfortunately after much deliberation I can now confirm that she has been sold.”

Surreal journey

Half Moon Delphi (‘Maggi’) joins a string of talented horses, bought by Bob for US rider Sarah to compete. She trains with Swedish Olympian Patrik Kittel, who lives in Germany, and has her sights set on Rio 2016.

“I can not put into words how excited I am to have such a wonderful mare to campaign,” Sarah said. “I can not wait to get to know ‘Maggie’ in the coming months and to begin such a surreal journey. To have the support of Bob and trainer Patrik is fantastic and I look forward to the road ahead.”

Maggie left the Eilberg yard yesterday (21 June), with “loads of hugs and kisses” and a box of her favourite mints, as a reminder of home.

Sad day

“It has been a sad day to see her leave, but I just have to think about all the great times we’ve had together”, said Michael. “She has been an absolute pleasure to have and to train, riding her through the grades has been quite something.”

Michael also thanked Jon and Julie Deveril, who owned Maggie, as well as his fans who followed their progress.

“I had my last ride on her yesterday and the song See you again, from Fast and Furious, came on the radio,” he said. “You couldn’t have written a better ending!”
