Mary King has made a winning return to eventing, following her two-month suspension from the sport.

Comeback

The Olympian made her comeback at West Wilts Horse Trials, where all three of her rides finished in the top 10 – with King Dan winning his BE100 section.

“Hurray, am back competing!” Mary wrote on her Facebook page. “I have never been so excited at riding at West Wilts Horse Trials before – and I rode a winner!”

As well as her winning ride, the eventer came second in the Open Novice on Mr Hiho, and ninth in the same class on Kings Choice.

Family footsteps

Mr Hiho is normally the ride of Mary’s daughter Emily, but Mary has temporarily taken on the ride as the horse has been “a bit naughty” .

Emily is part of the Junior European Eventing Championships squad, which takes place this week.

Suspension

Mary was suspended for two months after receiving a yellow card at Bramham for ‘dangerous riding’.

As it was her second yellow card in the space of a year, she received an automatic suspension.
