Edwina Tops-Alexander makes history at Longines Masters of Paris

Edwina Tops-Alexander has won the Longines Masters of Paris with her incredible horse California.

Prestigious class

Edwina is only the second woman to win in history to win this prestigious class and the first non-European. The other female rider to take the title is Penelope Leprévost, who won in in 2011.

Seven riders made it through to the jump-off, with Edwina the fastest of three clears.

It was Ireland’s Denis Lynch who produced the first clear against the clock in a time of 47.03sec riding the 10-year-old gelding The Sinner.

He was then overtaken by Edwina who posted what proved to be the winning clear in 44.43sec.

Top spot

Italy’s Alberto Zorzi was last to go riding Contanga and it looked like he might push Edwina off the top spot. However he had to settle for second place with a clear in 44.79sec.

“I wasn’t sure I had been fast enough to beat Alberto who started last,” Edwina said. “I should have gone faster if there had been more to come after me.”
