Dora seeks a happy new home
A neglected pony is now fighting fit and seeking a new and permanent home, thanks to the help of the RSPCA.
The pony, called Dora, is currently housed in Godalming, Surrey, at the RSPCA Lockwood Centre for Horses & Donkeys.
Following a report from a concerned member of the public, Dora was rescued from a field in Essex by RSCPA Inspector Kate Fletcher last April. Emaciated and covered with lice, Dora had clearly not had proper food or care for some time, and was taken to Catley Cross Veterinary Clinic.
Staying at the facility for two months, Dora made a superb recovery and is now well enough to start out in new surroundings.
“We can’t wait to see her in a forever home,” said RSPCA Lockwood manager, Anna Hemmings. “She has made lots of friends here and is loving living out in the fields, with plenty of grass, so is putting on weight nicely.”
Anna described Dora as being ‘easy to handle in all respects’ and hopes that Dora’s prospective home would have ‘plenty of grazing’ and ideally other ponies to aid her social interaction. The team at Lockwood are also confident that Dora will soon a reach a stage where she can be ridden.
Anyone interested in meeting Dora, with a serious view to offering her a home, is encouraged to call RSPCA Lockwood Centre on 0300 123 0720.
