Daniel Deusser has secured his ticket to the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Final, posting his second win of the 2018/2019 season.
Careful and scopey
Daniel’s victory in the Madrid qualifier with Tobago Z follows his win in Verona last month with Calisto Blue.
“Tobago is very careful and scopey, and he’s not a hot horse so that really helps in the jump-off,” said Daniel. “He never rushes, even when he’s under pressure – you get the same jump whether you are going fast or slow,” said Daniel.
Runner-up was world number two Steve Guerdat, who now has a significant lead on the league table, while third place went to Irma Karlsson.
Valuable seconds
Having set the standard at 46.73sec, the 2014 World Cup champion had to wait for the remaining five riders to try their luck – and talent.
It looked like Steve would challenge Daniel’s lead with Ulysse des Forets. However, a wider turn to the double cost valuable fractions of seconds, and the pair broke the beam in 47.12sec.
The World Cup stays in Spain for the next qualifier, with La Coruña in Galicia hosting the seventh leg.
