Celebrity offers home to blind pony

A horse left blinded emaciated and abandoned at an auction house has finally found a caring home in the shape of US celebrity Jon Stewart.

Close range

As reported by H&C in March a 20-year-old white mare was found abandoned at the stables of an auction house in Pennsylvania USA.

The horse named Lily was found to be malnourished and most alarmingly splattered with all colours of paint. It transpired that she had been hit at close range more than 120 times with a paintball gun and Lily lost an eye because of her injuries.

Since then the Lancaster County SPCA have been caring for her.

New home

After several months of recuperation Lily has joined former host of talk and news satire show The Daily Show Jon Stewart and his wife Tracey on their farm in Middletown New Jersey.

For the past year the couple have been partnered with Farm Sanctuary to open their own animal sanctuary. In addition to horses the 12-acre farm currently houses cows pigs sheep goats and chickens.

Conviction

Philip Price of East Providence Rhode Island was traced as Lily’s owner through CCTV at the auction house. Price was convicted of five charges of animal cruelty as well as fines and medical costs due to his treatment of Lily. However is still to be determined who fired the paintball shots at her.

Lily has reportedly been doing well since being discovered and rehomed. She has put on weight and regained her confidence and will no doubt continue to improve as part of Jon and Tracey’s animal sanctuary.
