Can The Fugue win the Coral-Eclipse?
Star race mare The Fugue is the favourite for today’s Group 1 Coral-Eclipse at Sandown.
Leading lady
The five-year-old arrives in Esher on winning form, having won the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.
But she finished last in te Coral-Eclipse 12 months ago, her only other appearance at Sandown Park, and there have only been two female wins of the race since it was first held in 1886.
Strong opposition
The Fugue also faces some strong opposition at Sandown from the QIPCO 2000 Guineas winner,Night Of Thunder, and the Investec Derby runner-up,Kingston Hill.
A total of 11 runners line up for the race, which will go off at 3.50pm. The Coral-Eclipse is notable because it is the first Group 1 race in the season where three-year-olds take on their older rivals.
