Boyd Exell tops World Cup leaderboard after winning at Geneva

Boyd Exell has achieved another win in the FEI Driving World Cup, taking first place at CHI Geneva.

Demanding drive-off

The defending World Cup champion finished the demanding drive-off course in 150.72sec, with only four penalty points.

Dutch driver Bram Chardon was second, head of Hungary’s József Dobrovitz  in third place.

The Geneva victory puts Boyd at the top of the World Cup standings, with a total of 30 points. Bram is second on 22 points, while Chardon’s father and driving legend Ijsbrand Chardon is tied third with Jérôme Voutaz, on 19 points.

Qualifying points

It’s far from a done deal for Boyd, however, as a number of drivers have had their moment on the top step of podium. Jérôme won the opening leg in November at Lyon and in Stuttgart Ijsbrand took gold, while Boyd finished a disappointing fifth.

Boyd was beaten again in Maastricht by Koos De Ronde, another Dutch driver and former World Cup champion. Bram Chardon is also giving Boyd a run for his money after winning in Budapest.

With three legs left in London, Mechelen and Leipzig, qualifying points are within reach of many, including American driving champion Chester Weber. He is hungry for a win over Boyd, after finishing second to him at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon.
