Beaten youngster makes remarkable recovery
Almost one year ago, charity HorseWorld discovered an emaciated horse who had collapsed in the road as a result of being beaten. Now Twiglet is almost unrecognisable.
Brutally treated
The youngster was found so badly beaten that he had fractures to both his neck and back. HorseWorld have been responsible for getting the rescued horse back to full health.
“He was extremely thin and had a fractured back and neck which was discovered on return to HorseWorld when our vets examined him,” said Becky Anstey from HorseWorld.
“The vets think this was caused by blunt traumas such as being beaten over the back and neck with something heavy.”
A troublesome time
Twiglet, who was so malnourished when he arrived at the rescue centre, has had an uncertain few months.
His sudden growth spurt as a result of being fed properly put pressure on his legs.
“Our vets performed an operation to correct this and until recently, Twiglet’s leg has been in a cast,” explains Becky.
“His veterinary care has cost over £3,000 so far but he is expected to make a full recovery,” she added.
Success story
Twiglet is now well enough to meet the public in an Open Day which is being held to showcase many of the charity’s rescued horses.
The Open Day is Saturday 25th June from 10.30am till 4pm at Keynes Farm in Bristol.
