Alex Hua Tian is the Master of Bramham

China’s Alex Hua Tian won the second leg of the Event Rider Masters at the Equi-Trek Bramham International Horse Trials.

Alex went double clear with Don Geniro to finish on their dressage score of 40.1pen to take the CIC3* title. In doing so he made history by becoming the first Chinese equestrian to win at three-star international level in Britain.

“I can’t believe it we were dead last at Chatsworth and to be here and win is extraordinary ” said Alex 25. “‘Don’ is an exceptional horse and this win is a huge credit to all of my team.”

In second was the USA’s Clark Montgomery and Loughan Glen who had led the dressage with a score of 36.5pen before a showjumping rail dropped them down below Alex on the leaderboard.

New Zealand’s Jonelle Price was third with Faerie Dianimo. Best of the Brits was Rosalind Canter (Allstar B) in fifth place with Pippa Funnel (Mirage D’Elle) seventh and Laura Collett (Mr Bass) eighth.

Leading Brits

British riders dominated in the other CIC3* competition taking 18 out of the top 21 places. Gemma Tattersall won with the 12-year-old mare Chico Bella P finishing on her dressage score.

Kristina Cook and Pippa Funnell finished second and third respectively with Kitty King fourth.

In the Equi-Trek CCI3* New Zealand’s Andrew Nicholson had his first major win since his accident last summer riding Jet Set IV.

Lauren Shannon and Oliver Townend finished second and third respectively.

Tom McEwen and Sam Ecroyd were the top two riders in the Bishop Burton College CCI3* Under-25 competition with third place going to Emily Prangnell.
