London – January 19th, 2022 – In the second half of 2021, Olympic dressage legends Carl Hester & Charlotte Dujardin featured in a series of sell out events at equestrian venues around the country. If you couldn’t get there, we’ve got good news. The H&C crew was on hand at the final event at Myerscough College to film the whole thing. In this exclusive ninety-minute special, “Carl and Charlotte: 2021 in Review”, the pair talk in detail about their partnership and their careers to date; horses, work ethic, the highs and lows of competing at the top of their sport and, of course, their unprecedented 2021, embracing the Nationals, Europeans and Olympics.

The evening is expertly hosted by Henry Boswell who manages to steer the chatty pair through a wide range of topics. First off was the challenges of Covid and how it impacted their preparations for the major championships in 2021. Carl highlighted the sheer pressure involved in dealing with all the issues and challenges posed by quarantine. And of course, the heightened expectations on Team GBR given the successes of the last twelve years. For her part, Charlotte revealed that she considers winning two Olympic medals with Pumpkin, a young horse denied Grand Prix experience by Covid and that had never even flown before, one of her greatest achievements.

They go on to talk about their relationship, which now extends over 14 years, and how honesty, frankness and humour are at its core. On the subject of social media and how they protect themselves from the criticism of the keyboard warriors, Carl has one rule – never reply! Instead, they focus on the people they meet every day and the positivity they draw from that. Nowhere is this more evident than in the joy that Valegro and Uthopia continue to bring to so many people to this day.

Henry asks about the next generation of horses they have coming through and Carl confirms that he’s very much targeting the Paris Olympics in two years. The programme ends with a Q&A in which the pair give some fascinating insights into what they look for when buying a horse as well as answering a whole host of questions on varying topics.

“Carl & Charlotte: 2021 in Review” is available on H&C+ from Thursday January 27th. Members can watch online or with H&C’s mobile apps, as well as on Roku, Apple TV, Android TV, and Amazon Fire.
